Dryer Error Codes by Brand
What the code on your dryer's display means and what to check first. Many clear with a two-minute check. If it doesn't, we'll diagnose it — the $65 diagnostic is waived when you go ahead with the repair.

LG
LG dryers show a short code on the display when a cycle stops. Most airflow codes point at the vent, not the dryer.
- d80 / d90 / d95 Flow Sense airflow warning. The exhaust is restricted, and the number climbs as the blockage gets worse.Clean the vent run and check the outside hood. Foil flex duct can trigger the code by itself, and LG specifies rigid or semi-rigid 4" metal duct. On a gas dryer, d80 can also mean weak gas supply.
- tE1 / tE2 / tE3 Temperature sensor (thermistor) fault.Unplug the dryer, hold Start/Pause for 5 seconds, and restore power. For tE2, make sure the lint filter and vent are clean. If a tE code comes back, the sensor or its wiring needs testing.
- dE Door error. The dryer doesn't see the door as fully closed.Open the door and close it firmly, and make sure the lint filter is fully seated. A door switch that keeps failing needs replacing.
- PF Power failure. The dryer lost power during a cycle.Unplug it, hold Start/Pause for 5 seconds, and plug it back in.
- nP No current at the heater. The dryer isn't getting its full 240 volts.Make sure the cord is fully seated in a grounded 240-volt outlet, and check both breakers. Electric dryers run on two, and one can trip while the drum still spins.
- PS Improper power supply. The wires at the power cord may be reversed.Have the cord connection at the terminal block checked. This usually appears right after an install or a cord change.
- gAS No gas supply (gas dryers).Make sure the gas valve is fully open and the line isn't kinked.
- HS Humidity sensor fault.Wipe the sensor strips below the lint filter with a damp cloth.
Samsung
Samsung dryers show a short letter-and-number code, and some models add a leading digit (for example 1 tC) to the same fault.
- dC / dE / dF Door latch or door sensor problem.Make sure the door closes fully, nothing is blocking the latch, and the latch is secure.
- tS / tC / tE Temperature or temperature sensor problem.Clean the lint screen and the vent run. A packed vent is the usual cause.
- HC / hE The dryer is getting too hot.Clean the lint screen and the vent run. Heat that can't leave the drum trips this code.
- bE / bC2 / 6E A control panel button is detected as stuck.Power the dryer off, then touch and release each button to free it.
- 9E / 9C1 / 2E The supply voltage is abnormal.Make sure the dryer is on its own circuit and not plugged in through an extension cord.
- AC / AE / Et Internal parts aren't communicating with each other.Shut the dryer off for 60 seconds and turn it back on. If it returns, the control board needs diagnosis, and boards are estimated separately.
- FC / FE Invalid power frequency detected.Restart the cycle. If it keeps returning, the power supply or control board needs testing.
- CL Child lock is on.Turn it off with the child lock control on the panel.
Whirlpool & Maytag
Maytag dryers are built on the Whirlpool platform, so digital models share the same codes. Older dial-timer dryers have no display and show no codes.
- PF Power failure. The dryer lost power during the cycle.Press Start to resume. If it keeps happening, check the breaker and the outlet.
- AF Airflow warning. The dryer is sensing restricted exhaust.Clean the lint screen and the vent run.
- F01 Main control board fault, often after a power interruption or surge.Unplug the dryer for a minute and restart. If F01 returns, the board needs to be diagnosed. Main boards are estimated separately.
- F1E3 Control unit or wiring fault.Touch Power, choose a cycle, then hold Start/Pause. If that doesn't clear it, unplug the dryer and have the control diagnosed.
- F22 Temperature sensor (thermistor) fault.Restart once. If it returns, the sensor circuit needs testing.
- L2 Line voltage fault. The dryer isn't getting full power.Electric dryers run on two breakers, and one can trip while the drum still spins. Check both breakers.
Electrolux
Electrolux dryers show a short code on the display when a cycle can't continue.
- E42 Door open.Make sure nothing is blocking the door and that it closes fully.
- EF1 Ventilation blockage. The dryer isn't moving enough air.Check the lint filter for a blockage, then clean the vent run.
- E4 Humidity sensor failed.The dryer finishes the current cycle and you can still run manual cycles. If the code keeps showing, the sensor needs testing.
- H2 / B2 Power supply problem.Check both breakers first, since electric dryers run on two. If the code stays, the supply to the dryer needs to be checked.
- H4 / B4 Incorrect wiring.This points at the dryer's power connection. Have the installer or an electrician check it.
