Whirlpool Dryer Problems We See

The 27-inch Whirlpool dryer platform is the most common machine in older Orange County laundry rooms. The thermal fuse on the blower housing, at the bottom rear, is the usual no-heat cause.

But a customer who has replaced the thermal fuse twice and watched it blow again does not have a fuse problem. A fuse that's blown twice means a shorted element or a packed vent, and we test for both. There are three real causes:

1. The element is shorted to ground. Test continuity from an element terminal to ground — a good element has none. A shorted one keeps heating when it shouldn't and cooks the fuse.
2. A stuck heat relay on the control board. Same symptom: run the dryer on air dry, and if you feel heat with no heat called for, it's the element or the relay.
3. Airflow you can't see. A cleaned vent that still blows the fuse points to the blower wheel — damage or debris — or the exterior termination. A bird nest in a flue looks exactly like a clean vent from inside the house.

The codes we see most are AF (airflow), PF (power failure), F01 (control board), F22 (thermistor), and L2 (line voltage).

Whirlpool Washer Problems We See

Whirlpool Duet and Kenmore HE washers are the same hardware with two badges, and they're common in OC tract homes. On these washers, F21 is a long-drain fault: the drain has run longer than 8 minutes. The display shows Sd first at 4 minutes, then F21 four minutes later.

The cause order is a clogged coin trap and filter, then a kinked drain hose, then the pump itself. Most F21s are a coin trap full of lint, hairpins, and change, not a dead pump, and we clear it and test a full cycle rather than selling a pump on the first visit.

A front leak is usually the door boot, torn from overloading. F35 points at the analog pressure sensor and excess suds.
